The Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica has signed a Framework Agreement that will initiate the first large-scale green hydrogen geothermal development in the Caribbean. This milestone agreement represents a material step taken by a Caribbean island to monetise its significant geothermal resources on a large scale, through its generation of green hydrogen and green electricity both for export and local consumption.
The sod-turning ceremony for T&T's first grid-scale renewable energy project was held yesterday at Brechin Castle. The ceremony marked the commencement of construction of the solar project which, when completed, will generate 112MW of renewable energy across two sites (Brechin Castle and Orange Grove), making it the largest project of its kind in the Caribbean.

McDermott has been awarded a front-end engineering design (FEED) contract from Shell Trinidad and Tobago Limited for the Manatee gas development project as part of a competitive FEED process. Under the contract scope, McDermott will provide comprehensive FEED services for a wellhead platform, export pipeline system, shore approach, midstream pipeline and onshore control room.

HDF Energy (Hydrogène de France) is delighted to announce the start of construction work on the world’s first mass production plant for high-power hydrogen fuel cells. Representing a major technological and industrial breakthrough, the plant, which has been pre-notified as an IPCEI1, will supply the French domestic and international markets in heavy marine and rail mobility and electricity generation for energy grids. Located on the site of the former Ford factory in Blanquefort near Bordeaux, the new plant will contribute to the reindustrialisation of France and Europe, the creation of local jobs and the exportation of French technology.
Touchstone Exploration Inc. reported that the company was notified by The National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited that they expect to be ready to receive first gas from the Cascadura natural gas and associated liquids facility on or about June 30, 2023.

IN MANY OF his recent public statements, including at the launch of the major grid-scale solar project, the restructuring of Atlantic and the opening of bids for the onshore bid round, the Minister of Energy, the Honourable Stuart Young, has made impassioned pleas for the pace of delivery to be accelerated. The need to speed up the pace of approvals was the first point in the Energy Chamber’s six-point plan for the future of the gas industry released in June 2022. And past Minister of Energy, Kevin Ramnarine, has also made a similar point in a recent media interview. So, this is one point on which everybody seems to be aligned.

Shell Petroleum NV, a wholly owned subsidiary of Shell plc (Shell), has reached an agreement with Davidson Kempner Capital Management LP, Pioneer Point Partners and Sampension to acquire 100% shareholding of Nature Energy Biogas A/S (Nature Energy) for nearly US$2 billion (€1.9 billion). The acquisition will be absorbed within Shell’s current capital range, which remains unchanged.
